== Government and politics ==

Rovenia is a unitary [[w:Parliamentary system|parliamentary]] [[w:Constitutional monarchy|constitutional monarchy]]. The political framework is defined by the Constitution of 1995.

The Monarch serves as the [[w:Head of state|head of state]], performing strictly ceremonial duties defined by the constitution, such as formally appointing the Prime Minister, signing legislation passed by Parliament, and representing the state abroad. Queen Katarina I has reigned as monarch since 22 October 2023.

Executive power is exercised by the [[w:Prime minister|Prime Minister]] and the [[w:Cabinet (government)|Cabinet]]. The Prime Minister is nominated by the monarch based on parliamentary party strength and must be confirmed by a majority vote in the National Assembly.

Legislative power is vested in the [[w:Bicameralism|bicameral]] Parliament (*Sabor*):
* The **National Assembly** (*Državni Zbor*) is the primary legislative chamber, consisting of 150 members elected for four-year terms via [[w:Proportional representation|proportional representation]] with a 4% [[w:Electoral threshold|electoral threshold]].
* The **National Council** (*Državni Svet*) is an upper chamber of 40 members representing functional constituencies, regional governments, [[w:Trade union|trade unions]], and civil institutions, holding [[w:Suspensive veto|suspensive veto]] powers over legislation.

Rovenia is organized as a [[w:Unitary state|unitary state]] divided into 12 administrative [[w:Statistical regions of Slovenia|statistical regions]] (*Statistične regije*) and 212 [[w:Municipalities of Slovenia|municipal districts]] (*Občine*), of which 14 possess urban municipality status. The three historical provinces—North Rovenia (*Severna Rovenija*), Central Rovenia (*Osrednja Rovenija*), and South Rovenia (*Južna Rovenija*)—retain distinct judicial districts and cultural institutions but do not operate as independent federal units.

Rovenia is a member of the [[w:European Union|European Union]], [[w:NATO|NATO]], the [[w:United Nations|United Nations]], the [[w:OECD|OECD]], and the [[w:World Trade Organization|World Trade Organization]]. It maintains diplomatic relations with 184 states.

The Rovenian Armed Forces consist of land, air, and logistics components, numbering approximately 14,500 active-duty personnel and 8,000 reservists. Mandatory [[w:Conscription|conscription]] was abolished in 2003 in favor of a fully professional volunteer force.
